BERLIN brats:

Die BERLIN brats haben sich im März 2016 unter dem Namen TiB Berlin Braves v.a. aus Läufer:innen und Baseball-Spielerfreundinnen gegründet und waren in der ersten Saison so unerfahren, dass sie in einem Mixed Softball Liga Spiel mit 50:0 im 3. Inning hinten lagen; das  Schienbein der 2nd Basefrau von einem Liner angebrochen wurde; die damalige Trainerin, die als einzige Softball-Erfahrung hatte, im Sommer zurücktrat; und bei jedem Spiel andere Leute auf dem Platz standen – v.a. einige Baseballer des TiB und später auch drei Spieler:innen aus einem Uni-Kurs, die blieben und schnell zum Kern der Mannschaft wuchsen. Nichtsdestotrotz haben wir bis heute nie ein Spiel abgesagt, sind jede Saison notfalls mit nur vier Stammspieler:innen angetreten und haben uns in den letzten fünf Jahren zu einem extrem netten, offenen und diversen Team gemausert, das niemanden auf der Bank sitzen lässt – egal ob im Dugout oder auf der Tribüne. Wir trainieren allein, zu zweit, zu dritt und auch zu zwanzigst und spielen in der Mixed Softball League mit dem Ziel, Spaß zu haben und als Team zusammenzuwachsen, in dem jede:r einen Platz findet. Auf dem bisherigen Höhepunkt im Jahr 2019 konnten wir nach einer längeren Siegesserie gar das kleine Saisonfinale (der unteren Tabellenhälfte) für uns entscheiden. 2020 hatten wir (dank Corona und unserem Standort THF) starken Zuwachs und mussten uns außerdem für einen neuen Team-Namen entscheiden: BERLIN brats – wie Berliner Gören, Bratwurst und nicht zuletzt auch als Hommage an die BERLIN (army) BRATS, die eng mit dem Namensgeber unserer Baseball- & Softball-Felder Colonel Gail Halvorsen verbunden waren. Falls ihr Lust habt, mit uns zu trainieren und zu spielen (keine Vorkenntnisse notwendig), meldet euch gern bei Suse, Gründungsmitglied, Managerin & “Coach”.

„Diamonds are a girl‘s best friend“ und so stand im Herbst 2016 endlich fest, dass es wieder ein Fastpitch-Softball-Team in der Verbandsliga geben wird. Nach langjähriger Abstinenz eines Frauenteams folgen nun auf die Rangers in den 90er Jahren, den Banshees in den 2000ern und den Bravettes aus 2016 seit Sommer 2020 die „SKYLARKS“. Wir blicken positiv in die Zukunft und freuen uns auf viele weitere Saisons, vielleicht dann mit DIR. Wir sind ein buntgemischter Haufen Spielerinnen in den besten Jahren (zurzeit zwischen 15 – 40), von Anfängerin bis zu Leistungsträgerin. Eins der wichtigsten Schlagworte unseres Teams ist Zusammenhalt, denn ohne diesen würden wir als Team nicht bestehen können. Wir bieten unverbindliche Probetrainings an und freuen uns immer über neue Spielerinnen (ab 14 Jahren). Seid mutig und werdet ein Mitglied vom Team Berlin Skylarks, wir freuen uns auf dich!

BERLIN brats:

The BERLIN brats were founded in March 2016 under the name TiB Berlin Braves, mainly by runners and girlfriends of TiB baseball players. They were so inexperienced in their first season that the team fell behind 50-0 in the 3rd inning of a mixed softball league game; the second basewoman's shin bone got fractured by a liner; the then coach, the only person who had any experience playing the game, eventually resigned in the middle of the summer; and for every game different players showed up – mostly baseball players from the TiB and later three players from a university course, who stayed on and quickly grew into core team. All that as it was, we have never canceled a game to this day. In the last five years, we have evolved from sometimes only having four consistent players at the start of a season into an extremely friendly, open, and diverse team that leaves no one on the bench – whether in the dugout or in the stands. We train alone, in twos, threes and twenties and play in the Mixed Softball League with the aim of having fun and growing together as a team in which everyone can find a place. Our peak so far came in 2019, when we were able to win the season's “little” finale of the lower division after a long series of wins. In 2020 we saw strong growth – thanks to Corona and our location THF – and also had to decide on a new team name: BERLIN brats – like Berliner Gören, Bratwurst and, last but not least, as an homage to the BERLIN (army) BRATS, who were closely connected to the namesake of our baseball & softball fields, Colonel Gail Halvorsen. "Diamonds are a girl’s best friend" – and so, in the fall of 2016, it was finally confirmed that a Fastpitch softball team would once again compete in the Verbandsliga. After a long absence of a women’s team, the Skylarks have been taking the field since summer 2020, following in the footsteps of the Rangers in the '90s, the Banshees in the 2000s, and the Bravettes in 2016. We look positively to the future and are excited for many more seasons – maybe with you on our team! We are a diverse group of players in our prime (currently between 15 and 40 years old), ranging from beginners to top performers. One of the most important values of our team is solidarity, because without it, we wouldn’t exist as a team. We offer non-binding trial training sessions and are always happy to welcome new players (ages 14 and up). Be brave and become part of Team Berlin Skylarks – we can't wait to meet you!
